Introduction
The sources of primary authority for matters related to professional responsibility in Nova Scotia are the Legal Profession Act, SNS 2004, c 28, and its Regulations. Additionally, as of January 1, 2012, lawyers in Nova Scotia are regulated by a set of national guidelines for ethical and professional conduct, called the Code of Professional Conduct. Prior to that date, lawyers in this province were governed by Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct: A Handbook for Lawyers in Nova Scotia, 2nd ed (Halifax, NS: Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, 1998), also known as the Legal Ethics Handbook.
